Open tibial fractures are among the most severe musculoskeletal injuries and are associated with a high incidence of infectious complications, delayed bone union, and long-term functional impairment. Therefore, optimizing treatment strategies aimed at reducing postoperative complications while improving functional recovery remains a major clinical challenge.
Objective. To comparatively evaluate the effectiveness of treatment in patients with open tibial fractures based on quality of life, lower limb functional recovery, and the severity of postoperative infectious complications.
Materials and Methods. A comparative clinical study included 102 patients with open tibial fractures. The main group consisted of 55 patients treated using an improved treatment approach, while the comparison group included 47 patients who received conventional treatment. Clinical outcomes were assessed using the validated SF-36, LEFS, and ASEPSIS scoring systems. Statistical analysis was performed using appropriate biostatistical methods.
Results. The improved treatment approach resulted in lower ASEPSIS scores, indicating fewer infectious complications, significantly better lower limb functional recovery according to LEFS, and higher quality-of-life scores across most SF-36 domains compared with conventional treatment.
Conclusions. The improved treatment strategy for open tibial fractures provides superior clinical and functional outcomes, reduces postoperative infectious complications, and contributes to better long-term quality of life.
